I've Got Girls, She's Got Boys: 10 Things To Love About Both

A few weeks ago, my friend Julie wrote a guest post called “You Might Be a Home Schooler If…” for this blog.

I couldn’t write that post, because I’m not a home schooler.

I also can’t write a post about being a mom of boys, because I’m not one of those, either.  But Julie can, because she is. So she did.

What I can write about is being a mom of girls. So that’s what I’ve done.

This isn’t about stereotyping or labeling or pigeonholing kids based on their gender. We’re not trying to say all boys do this or all girls do that. We’re just saying that this is what life with boys and life with girls looks like for us, respectively. And, for that matter, respectfully.

Whether you’re a mom of boys or a mom of girls or mom of a mixed company, hop on over to Her View From Home to see what Julie and I think you might love about it as much as we do.

  2. Love this post...I wanted to let you know the link you linked to Party at My Place today is not working. I think the "g" was left off of the word guilty. You may want to try again. Just delete it and link again so readers won't miss it. Thanks.

  3. I also posted over there and just wanted to let you know I loved reading it! I have a 2-year-old boy and a girl on the way. I can relate to all the boy things and am looking forward to the girl things. It will be interesting to me to see the boy/girl dynamic at play.

Thanks for sharing at the Friday Funday Blog hop! #FFBH

    1. Thank you so much for leaving your kind words both here and there, Lissette! Aren't you a sweetie? :) What absolute fun for you: already enjoying the "boy benefits" while you look forward to the joys of girldom. ;) Congratulations to you, mama-in-waiting!

    1. Heehee...love it! I'm with you on all-girl contentment. I know I would have loved having boys if that's how it had worked out, but many, many times, I've thought, "Thank you, God, for giving me girls." I think I'm better with them. ;) Thanks for stopping by from Friday Frivolity!

  5. This was awesome - as a mom of two girls, I could naturally identify with the all girls crowd. I still get asked if we're going to try for a boy - ummmm, NO! That ship has sailed. We're done. lol

Thanks for sharing (and for linking up to the #SHINEbloghop).

    Wishing you a lovely day.
    xoxo

  6. Fun post. At this time of year I look at all of the cute Easter dresses and hats and think "Here, son, have a tie." But then I think about prom. Tuxes are cheaper to rent. Thanks for linking up on #FridayFrivolity

    1. Hahaha...I love that perspective, Audrey! And your timing is perfect b/c I am in the throes of prom-dress shopping with my 17-year-old right now! Oh, the pressure! Oh, the decision! Would rather be renting a tux. ;) Thanks for hosting #FridayFrivolity...one of my weekly favorites! :)

  9. Haha, oh my gosh at this!!! "They can pee outside. Actually, I’m just jealous. I gotta go all the way back in the house. What a time waster. My youngest will even pee outside the living room door while watching TV so he doesn’t have to take 20 steps to the bathroom and then wash his hands. What a life!" I'm sure this is going to happen before I know it. I love having a little boy. We'll see whether I have all boys or a combination. When I was pregnant with my son, I was sure it was going to be a girl and was so shocked when it was a boy. I never imagined having a little boy.. now I can't imagine anything but him!

    1. Isn't that great, Leah? I loved Julie's boy-mom list and know I would have adored being a mom of boys myself. But God had other plans, and He always knows what He's doing. I'm hoping for sons-in-laws someday who cherish my daughters--and love their MIL's cooking! ;) Thanks so much for stopping by!

  10. I just clicked over and read your post and it is awesome! I don't have kids yet and I grew up in a house full of girls. I never thought I would know what to do with little boys but now I have 4 nephews and I love hanging out when them! There are so many fun things about boys and girls. Thanks for linking up with #LifeisLovely!

I'd love to hear from you! Feel free to tell me what you really think. Years ago, I explained to my then-two-year-old that my appointment with a counselor was "sort of like going to a doctor who will help me be a better mommy." Without blinking, she replied, "You'd better go every day." All of which is just to say I've spent some time in the school of brutal honesty!
