17 Things I Love About Having a Daughter (A Very Incomplete List)

I'm a mom of daughters and only daughters.

By “only,” I don't mean there's anything missing or lacking or incomplete about our family. I just mean that all (two) of the children given to my husband and me are of the girl variety.

I don’t know what it’s like to have boys running around the house, yelling and climbing on things and jumping off things and tackling things and wrestling each other and having bodily-noise contests.

I’ll never know what it’s like to have a strong, strapping son who’s protective of his mama and walks me down the aisle when he gets married.

But oh, I do know what it's like to have daughters.

I'm grateful to Her View From Home for letting me share this little ode to daughters. I'd love to have you take the quick trip over there to read the rest of it. If you're the mom of a daughter, maybe something on this list is something you know and love, too.

  1. Loved this, Elizabeth! "Tall, beautiful girl across the room" got me, especially in these days where I see my girls growing up and maturing before my eyes. This is a poignant reminder of all that's sweet and precious about raising daughters!

  2. Hey! I'm in this club, too! And I already feel for Gv so much on those days when she just cries for no reason - because sometimes it's just hard being a girl!

    1. I love being in this club with you! :) And you are SO right: sometimes it truly is "just hard being a girl"! Your little Gv is blessed to have a mama who already gets this!

  3. I have two girls and I love it! I've never been very "girly" myself, but there is something about them that draws out that hidden part of me. I love putting them in cute dresses and watching them play tea party. I love when they want to comb through my hair and wear my shoes. They're so precious. I'm sure boys are, as well, and perhaps someday I'll experience this for myself. For now, though, I'm so glad the Lord blessed me with two girls!

    1. Aw, Shannon, I love this beautiful little ode to the joys of having daughters you've left here! I agree wholeheartedly...and in my experience, those joys just keep adding up as they get older. Thank you so much for stopping by (AND for taking time to click over to the Her View link)!

I'd love to hear from you! Feel free to tell me what you really think. Years ago, I explained to my then-two-year-old that my appointment with a counselor was "sort of like going to a doctor who will help me be a better mommy." Without blinking, she replied, "You'd better go every day." All of which is just to say I've spent some time in the school of brutal honesty!
